Veracruz,
exciting city on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico
was founded by the Spanish conqueror Hernán
Cortés on April 22, 1519
as La Villa Rica de la
Vera Cruz and ever since remained Mexico's
most important seaport.

the city is a modern trans-atlantic seaport with

in 1846, attacked by the French in 1862, hit by
